Welcome To the temple of the GRAYBELT
If you were born at the tail end of the baby boom — if your adult life started alongside the PC revolution — this space is for you.
Do you remember the beginning?
When anyone had a shot at successfully starting a software company? Especially because there were no books or online forums to figure things out — we started with nothing. And we built libraries that every company today is still based on.
Did you work seven days a week, month after month?
And then the giants were born. The biggest — Microsoft — decided it wanted to be the only software company. Bill wasn’t the biggest giver at the time; he was the biggest taker. Then came Google, the mind-control company, growing with the web. The big companies told you it was necessary to work weekends — and not get paid.
Most people have now forgotten all about that.
Were it not for these trends, there would’ve been a lot more millionaires — and a lot fewer billionaires — today.
Social media took off with MySpace and AOL. Then Facebook — the first company to introduce influence over what is right and what is not.
Do you remember the YOLO trend? Millions of naked teenage selfies.
And not to forget those GRAYBELT’s who did not work in tech. I worked in tech my entire life so my life references will tend to be tech related, but those of you who survive the trades working your way up from journeyman. Those of you who worked in restaurants or any minimum-wage job, if you are now in your 60s, and you’re still in the fight, you are a GRAYBELT to.
This site is dedicated to you.
To the ones who never asked for attention but earned it.
To the ones who kept going — and are still going.
Welcome to all GRAYBELTs!
